The Birth of Warrior Womban Wellness: My Journey to Creating a Village
We all have a purpose. I just never knew mine would lead me here—but now, it makes perfect sense.
Ever since I was a little girl, I had a larger-than-life personality. I grew up as an only child to a single mother, but I was never really alone—I had a slew of cousins, and as the oldest of at least ten of them, I naturally took on the role of the nurturer. I loved babies, doted on them like they were my own, and embraced caregiving long before I even understood what it meant. It’s like I was born with that instinct. Haha!
When I was a senior in high school, one of my pregnant cousins introduced me to the concept of a doula. She had been assigned one through her medical provider, and when she explained what a doula was—someone who supports a woman through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, without being a medical professional or family member—I was intrigued, fascinated, and inspired. I just knew I had to find a way to become one.
Years later, while working a job that left me unfulfilled, that passion resurfaced. I discovered an organization where I could train and certify as a doula, and I took the leap. That’s how Warrior Womban Wellness was born.
Why This Village Was Needed
I didn’t create Warrior Womban Wellness just to be another doula service—I created it because women, especially Black women, deserve better care, better support, and better outcomes.
💔 Maternal mortality rates in the Black community are alarmingly high.
Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women (CDC, 2023). Not because of genetics, but because of systemic neglect, bias in healthcare, and a lack of culturally competent support. Too many Black women are dismissed when they voice concerns. Too many are told their pain is “normal.” Too many are suffering in silence.
This village was created to break that cycle.
💛 Care and support for all women.
Every woman, no matter her background, deserves the opportunity to not just be heard, but truly listened to. To have someone who is supportive, flexible, nonjudgmental, and willing to care for her and her child as if they were their own.
🤝 A doula should be more than just a service provider.
I strive to be educated, knowledgeable, and passionate about each mother I support—because her outcomes, her emotional well-being, and her mental and physical health matter just as much as the baby she is bringing into the world.
🏡 The village does not disappear when the payments stop.
The support does not end after birth. It does not end after the postpartum period. The village is forever. The community, the love, the guidance— that is what makes Warrior Womban Wellness more than just a business. It is a lifelong commitment to showing up for women, however they need.
Why Warrior Womban Wellness?
I created Warrior Womban Wellness to honor the warrior-like strength that women embody as they navigate pregnancy, labor, and motherhood.
- Warrior symbolizes the resilience, power, and determination women possess in bringing life into this world.
- Womban is a play on woman—but more than that, it represents the womb as the center of strength, balance, and creation.
- Wellness signifies the holistic care and support needed during these transitions—because while the woman and the womb hold the power, every warrior deserves a village.
This is my calling—to be a part of that village, to support and uplift women through one of the most transformative times in their lives. And this is only the beginning. 💛
